Get ready to go ‘glamping’ at Historic O’Keefe Ranch.
The ranch has been awarded $245,085 from the provincial Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program’s destination development stream for its proposed glamping park.
For those not in the know, that’s glam camping – with amenities and comforts such as beds, electricity, and access to indoor plumbing.
The project will provide guests with the opportunity to get outside and connect with nature while enjoying some of the comforts of home.
The ranch plans to build glamping accommodations to lure tourists and locals. They’ll also be used for special events.
The ranch’s board of directors says the project will help fulfill its mandate to bring history alive and educate the public. It will also diversify the operation’s revenue streams.
The glamping park is expected to draw out-of-country visitors due to the rising popularity of tourists wishing to experience “roughing it in the Wild West.”
There will be an educational component to the project as well, illustrating early Okanagan history through the use of signage around the property.
O’Keefe Ranch hopes visitors will feel as though they are staying in a museum.
Two of the eight planned sites will be ready to rent in the spring, and the remaining six will come available as they are completed. They will be available to book through AirBnB.
