This celebrity chef’s cosy shepherd’s huts were made for…
With the demand for UK glamping holidays stronger than ever, there are some truly fabulous shepherd’s huts, treehouses and yurts on offer around the country.
One of them is Rick Stein’s cluster of luxurious shepherd’s huts near Padstow, in Cornwall, the perfect base for a foodie weekend by the sea.
If there’s one person we think of when Padstow is mentioned, it’s the celebrated TV chef and Padstow resident, Rick Stein. Now, you can live out your own Cornish dream by staying in one of his super-stylish shepherd’s huts in the grounds of The Cornish Arms in St Merryn, a country gastro pub also owned by the Stein empire.
BOOK RICK STEIN’S SHEPHERD’S HUTS
With underfloor heating, Nespresso machines and a boutique kitchen, there’s certainly no roughing it in the gorgeous hand-built shepherd’s huts.
Each of the five huts has been beautifully designed by the family team – Jill, Kate and Ed Stein – and all are en-suite and comfortably sleep two people in a proper double bed, making it perfect for a romantic foodie break. Rick Stein’s shepherd’s huts have their own outdoor space, where you can enjoy the tranquil woodland surrounds of St Merryn over a glass of Stein wine.
After a blissful night’s sleep in a cosy hut, you can wake up to a breakfast hamper where you can feast on Rick’s famous smoked salmon bagel or homemade granola and yoghurt. In the summer, a cooked breakfast is served just steps away in the pub’s restaurant.
The Cornish Arms is exactly what you want from a village pub, too. Oak beamed ceilings, roaring log fires and a wide range of locally brewed beers. Of course, being a Stein property, it’s really all about the food. Seafood is naturally a big draw and the summer menu includes fresh langoustine, rock oysters, fragrant Pondicherry cod curry and grilled Cornish lobster. Heaven!
The pub is tucked away in the leafy surrounds of St Merryn and is less than an hour’s stroll or 10-minute drive from Padstow. And there’s plenty to do around the harbour town. Enjoy a salt-whipped romp along the Camel Trail, the 18-mile walking route around the Camel Estuary, splash through the surf at Rock beach or wander around the ornamental gardens at Prideaux Place, a glorious Grade I listed Elizabethan country house.
Just don’t miss a chance to enjoy his legendary battered cod from Stein’s Fish & Chips, best eaten alfresco on the harbour wall.
Want to experience a quirky foodie break at Rick Stein’s shepherd’s huts? Red has an exclusive package for a two-night break, including a breakfast hamper, a bottle of Rick Stein Château Bauduc Rosé, and a three-course meal at The Cornish Arms. You’ll also get a Stein’s Deli beach picnic, an upgraded breakfast in Stein’s The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, and a signed copy of Rick’s brand new book, Rick Stein at Home.
