KUALA LUMPUR: If the idea of camping appeals to you but you’re less enthusiastic about venturing into the wilderness, why not give urban glamping a shot?
The Tribe Glamping, located in Puchong, is perfect for families looking for a getaway, or camping newbies who wish to try this outdoor activity without actually having to brave the elements.
For the uninitiated, glamping involves accommodation and facilities that are more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping.
“We wanted to create a cosy and relaxing place for our residents and guests to spend their leisure time in,” said Calvin Sew of IOI Properties, which owns the 16 Sierra Township and Amigo Clubhouse where the site is located.
He explained that The Tribe Glamping, which opened its doors in mid-July, had been conceived to introduce people to 16 Sierra and liven up the clubhouse, while offering services similar to what one might expect at a four-star boutique hotel.
Walk in and you’ll be wowed by the sight of eight giant tents pitched on grass, complete with outdoor tables and chairs and a bonfire circle.
The interior of the tents has a Nordic and Scandinavian vibe, from the furniture and bedding to the colour scheme, designed to provide a calming atmosphere through a clean and minimalist style.
With names such as “fireside glam”, “fancy hut”, “starlight sleepers” and “camper’s oasis”, the accommodation comprises four twin tents for two persons, and three quad tents for four people.
Then there’s the deluxe tent for three people that can also be booked for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and product launches.
Upon checking in, guests are able to enjoy all the facilities the clubhouse has to offer. These include a 40m swimming pool, kids’ pool with a tipping bucket, playground with a trampoline, gym and yoga studio, an outdoor movie theatre, and badminton and table-tennis courts.
Hungry? The clubhouse café provides breakfast and dinner for all glampers during the duration of their stay. While barbecues at the bonfire area are forbidden for hygiene reasons, these can be arranged in the café area.
For Muslim guests, prayer rooms are available as well.
According to Sew, public response has been “overwhelming” so far, with guests from Penang, Johor, the east coast, and even Singapore having stayed.
“What we want is for our guests to leave with a smile on their face,” he added. “We even helped a man with his marriage proposal on-site last month, to which the answer was a gleeful ‘yes’!”
