Railway carriage-style glamping pods proposed for…
PLANS for railway carriage style glamping accommodation have been lodged for a site near the Settle-Carlisle Railway.
Carlisle City Council has received an application for planning permission to site two glamping carriages with associated works from Eden Valley Glamping based at Eden Brows Lodge, Armathwaite.
The proposal would extend the existing hospitality offering of three glamping pods at the applicant’s site.
Eden Valley Glamping has been in operation since 2019 and it currently offers three glamping pods with a camp kitchen.

Their latest proposal, which requires approval from Carlisle City Council’s development panel is to install two railway-carriage style glamping units with a foul water drainage system.
The self-contained units are designed to meet demand from couples looking for a more private holiday retreat.
In supporting statements, the agent Rural Futures said: “The carriage units have been designed with the appearance of railway carriages referencing the sites proximity to the Settle-Carlisle railway line and Armathwaite Station. The units will have a dark natural stain finish.
“The overall appearance will not be dissimilar to a shepherd’s hut or glamping pod.

“The carriages will be positioned on a geocell base which will spread the load and minimise ground pressure. No groundworks will be required other than laying timber supporting sleepers on the ground surface.”
The agent has explained that guests to the site can arrive by train from Carlisle, Penrith or Armathwaite and be collected.
Eden Valley Glamping will promote cycling as a mode of transport with charging points for electric bikes provided on-site.
The applicants believe the proposal will be beneficial to the community and the economy as the business owners will provide guests with leaflets promoting local restaurants and shops
The public can view and comment on all applications submitted to Carlisle City Council for approval.
