Plans for Brampton glamping pods revealed
Plans for glamping pods and holiday lodges on farm land in Brampton are set to be discussed by Carlisle City Council this month.
The proposal, for four holiday lodges, two glamping pods and newt ponds on land north of Tarn Lodge Farm, near Castle Carrock, has been recommended for refusal.
It will be considered at the council’s development control committee on April 8. In a report on the proposal prepared for councillors, case officers outlined 11 issues.
The report says there is no identified need for the development, it is not on a recognised walking/cycling route and it provides no meaningful support to the rural economy.
The impact on traffic and biodiversity has also been queried.
Cumbria County Council as Highways and Lead Flood Authority has objected to the application.
In supporting statements, agent Hyde Harrington said: “The tarn is already a site where leisure and recreational activities have historically taken place and continue to do so.
“This application also relates to a site where planning permission has previously been granted for six lodges.
“When carrying out the balancing exercise, and even if the tarn is considered to be within the curtilage of Tarn Lodge/Folly Tower, it is evident that there will be no direct or physical impact whatsoever on the historic fabric of the designated heritage assets.”
