Our Guide to Glamping! – Glossy Glamping

If you have stumbled across this article, and not sure what Glamping is all about, Glamping is pretty much exactly what it sounds like – “glamorous” combined with “camping” = “glamping”- all your creature comforts whilst being immersed in the great outdoors.

Glamping sometimes gets a bit of stick in the press, with some articles slating it – deeming it camping for softies… however I wonder how many of these journalists have actually tried it??!  Yes, with glamping you often get to enjoy a lovely comfy bed, with a gorgeous duvet instead of a horrid nylon-y sleeping bag. You have proper pillows to lay your head on, and yes you have a lovely proper kettle to make your first cuppa of the day instead of waiting for a camping kettle to heat up on your single primus stove… But the main thing is that you are right in the heart of nature, often in locations that wouldn’t allow a conventional building to be, allowing you to enjoy being out in the wild, without turning feral yourself!

For me, there isn’t anything that beats glamping – and what is for sure, it piques the interest in millions of people across the globe and has become something of a sensation in the hospitality world.  Glamping has sprung up in all corners of the globe, with everything from yurts to amazing treehouses. There are numerous sites now advertising glamping accommodation so you shouldn’t find it too hard to find somewhere that exactly fits your bill – as you will see that no two glamping providers are the same!

So what top tips would we give you when trying to find your perfect glamping accommodation?

1. Think about your main key things you want the site to offer, such as a private loo, a wild location, or away from other glamping units?

2. Consider the site’s location, is it accessible for your car? If you have a normal car, some farms etc are down very bumpy roads, and your car may not be suitable to get down there! (This happened to me in Cornwall not too long ago!)

3. Check to see what the site provides ie cooking facilities, as some will require you to bring a frying pan or so!

4. Make sure that if you wish to bring children and/or dogs, you check with the glamping accommodation site first to make sure that they allow dogs/children as some don’t!

5. Check on bedding, you may need to take your own.

6. Don’t be too surprised if you don’t have mobile/cell phone reception, or electricity as some places are completely off grid!

All in all, glamping is a lot of fun, and has opened a new world up to people who aren’t too keen on camping, but love nature and being outdoors – so glamping can only be a good thing!
