The shocking moment a self-styled ‘dog psychologist’s’ six-stone Romanian sheepdog bites a policeman on the bottom has been revealed – as the animal faces being put down.

The footage, captured outside a Travelodge in Devizes, Wiltshire, shows the pet named ‘Shroom’ jump up and bite the bottom of PC Michael Obern.

PC Obern can be seen stroking the dog owned by Gemma Sankey, 51, before discussing how difficult his own cockapoo can be on a lead.

But he then screams out in agony as the large sheepdog bites into his bottom which left him with wounds and shredded boxer shorts.

Miss Sankey has since been convicted on two counts of failing to control a dangerous animal, and the CPS has requested permission for the dog to be put down.

The dog’s owner – a self-styled canine psychologist – told off Shroom before apologising to PC Obern, adding ‘I can get prosecuted now’.

PC Obern revealed in court he had been warned by the dog’s owner in a previous meeting not to wear high-vis clothing as this would make the dog ‘react’. 

He said he decided to wear a black police vest to appease the animal, but was quickly attacked by it anyway.

He told Salisbury Magistrates’ Court: ‘I managed to pet her but she then bit my left buttock. 

‘It ripped my trousers, ripped my boxer shorts and broke the skin. The dog was on a lead but it was quite a long one. 

‘I then told Miss Sankey to take the dog inside. I had a bruise for a week but I had been bitten by a human in another incident a few months before so I’d already had a tetanus injection.’ 

Sankey can be heard saying: ‘I’m so sorry, Shroom, what did you do that for? Bad girl. ‘Now you’re going to get in serious trouble aren’t you? I don’t know what to do because I can get prosecuted now.’

She told the court she had worked as a dog psychologist with a special knowledge of ‘canine aggression’ for over 35 years, but prosecutors said she had no formal qualifications and should not be considered ‘an expert’.

The dog also attacked a woman on a glamping site in Seend, near Melksham, Wiltshire.

But Sankey was found guilty for both offences after she tried to claim the incidents were ‘self inflicted’.

She told the court: ‘When Shroom gets terribly excited she jumps up occasionally.

‘She knows over 300 commands in Latin, so you could say she’s very long in the tooth. 

‘PC Obern gave Shroom a slap hit and then he turned away. His injuries were not caused by a bite from Shroom. A Chihuahua would have made more bite marks.’ 

Magistrates deliberated for just 30 minutes before finding Sankey guilty of two counts of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury.
