Gunning for a quirky glamping getaway? Inside the TANK…

It’s just the job for a tank holiday getaway.

A former Samaritan ambulance tank has been converted into a lakeside Airbnb, perfect for those gunning for a quirky glamping experience.

The unusual abode is part of the RAF Wainfleet coastal holiday site in Lincolnshire, a few miles from Skegness, and has been thrilling guests.

At first glance, the vehicle appears like a working tank, with an army-green paint job and a (non-working) gun.

A closer inspection reveals cosy accommodation for two with military-style décor – and a few handy mod cons.

Benches inside transform into a double bed, plus there’s Wi-Fi and a smart TV, along with equipment for rustling up meals fit for an army officer.

The tank door contains a fridge and wine rack and the interior houses cupboards, a double hob, a kettle and a toaster.

An awning at the back creates a little extra space and a fold-up table and four chairs allow for alfresco dining.

If the sun is shining, guests might like to fire up the BBQ grill.

There’s no ensuite – but it’s just a short walk to a toilet/shower block, the listing notes.

Visitors have shared their thoughts on the military-style accommodation in the listing’s review section.

‘Leanne’ from Hertford said: ‘What a lovely location. The lake was so peaceful.

‘We stayed in the tank and loved it. We will be back soon.’

‘Lucie’, from Nottingham, said: ‘Great stay in the tank! My five-year-old son and I stayed there for two nights and we had a lovely time. The surroundings are beautiful – bring your swim stuff as there is an open water pool you can swim in right outside the accommodation. The area was nicely remote. There is a tap just outside too – so don’t traipse all the way to the toilet block with a big water carrier like I did.’

Holidaymaker ‘Charlton’ noted: ‘Great stay, peaceful and quiet – great value for money.’

Other glamping options on the site include a converted aeroplane, an army ambulance, a fire engine and a helicopter.

The Samaritan Tank has a two-night minimum stay policy and costs £70 per night. Pets are welcome at a charge of £20 per pet. Visit airbnb.co.uk.
