Bond With Family And Connect With Nature In This Tiny…

When city life gets too hectic and stressful, it’s always therapeutic to immerse yourself in nature. The sight of lush greenery and the sound of birdsong have a way to calm frayed nerves and to remind you of life’s simple joys.

Lazel Buenaventura and Joven Rivera’s glamping home in Magallanes, Cavite, for instance, is one such perfect escape for families. Surrounded by trees, it offers a breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of the metro.

This is why the couple decided to name the house they built Breathe Cabin, as it was a fitting name amid the surge of the global health crisis. At the height of the camping craze, Lazel and Joven used the property for tent-pitching and relaxing. It was also inspired by tiny homes they would see on YouTube and on Pinterest. They acquired the property in July 2021 for P1.3 million.

Although Lazel and Joven’s property spans 314 square meters, they were intentional in building a tiny home which measures just 60 square meters. For the outdoors, they used the space for a bonfire area, a parking area for scooters and bicycles, as well as a field for crops.

One of the key highlights of Breathe Cabin is an above-the-ground pool called an Intex XTR Ultra pool, which Lazel and Joven specifically decided on to save on costs. A conventional swimming pool would have also taken them one to two months to construct.

Yung pool itself, kasama yung filter, nasa P80,000 siya,” Lazel tells the the OG team. “Pero may flooring pa kasi siya sa ilalim para hindi daw agad mabutas, ganyan. Tapos yung mga cleaning materials, mga chlorine, mga clarifiers, siguro umabot siya ng mga P110,000 lahat kasama na ‘yon.”

No dip in the pool would be quite as enjoyable without refreshments, and a semi-outdoor dining area nearby serves as a snack or functional work area.

Stepping inside the cabin, one is greeted by an open concept living area, with steel and concrete furniture pieces, given pests in the area. It also has modern entertainment gadgets such as a Smart TV and a mobile karaoke app. To maximize space, the couple used barn doors for the shower area and bedroom.

Similar to the thinking behind the industrial materials for the living area, Breathe Cabin’s dining area used treated wood so it would not attract a termite infestation. To keep the same outdoor feel indoors, they also used gravel as a low-maintenance material.

“Since nasa farm kami, minsan maputik tapos galing sa pool, baka madulas yung mga bata,” says Lazel. She also notes that walking barefoot on grass or stones has health benefits, according to Chinese medicine.

Another key feature of Breathe Cabin is the roofdeck, which provides a soothing view of the sunset. Lazel and Joven also like going stargazing with their child as the area’s light pollution is low.

Adding the construction costs, furniture, and appliances, the couple spent around P2.4 million all in all. With the house completed, Lazel and Joven have opened Breathe Cabin to the public. To those who also wish to build a similar home, Lazel emphasizes the importance of proper planning to make the most of ideas.

Maganda yung may pangarap tayo kasi do’n tayo namo-motivate na maging makatotohanan siya, e. Tsaka with God’s help, in God’s perfect time, kung para sa ‘tin, para sa ‘tin. So tuloy lang tayo mangarap na magkaro’n ng farmhouse or glamping home.”
