TRAILER MANUFACTURER Airstream and Porsche have joined forces to build an ultra-cool electric camper.

The camper is designed to be pulled by a small SUV or an electric vehicle – and is built of composite materials such as carbon fibre to help reduce weight.

The 4.99-metre long Airstream Studio F.A. includes a kitchenette with a sink, stove, storage space, and seating that transforms from a dining area into a full-size bed.

The seats are located in the front and can be folded into a bed or kept upright so campers can use the centre table.

The reclining seat options allow owners to enjoy the views through the open hatch.

And the wet bath is incorporated into the front roadside corner and features a door that creates an enclosed, private area which can conceal the toilet when it’s not in use.

The carbon-fibre pop-up roof creates additional headroom, while the camper has adjustable-height suspension that allows the owners to store the trailer in their garage.

The concept design integrates numerous advanced in aerodynamics, too, including a new rear shape intended to improve airflow.

There are integrated rooftop solar panels and lithium battery storage to conserve energy, making it ideal for off-grid camping.

However, Porsche and Airstream have not revealed prices – but Airstream currently sells trailers from £42,000 to £170,000.

Bob Wheeler, Airstream’s CEO, explained: “Our collaboration with Studio F. A. Porsche brought talented new eyes and minds to our never-ending process of improving the Airstream experience.

“It’s a fresh design approach aimed at reaching a broader, more diverse base of potential customers.

“Like earlier concepts, the Airstream Studio F. A. Porsche Concept Travel Trailer builds on Airstream’s design DNA and our commitment to aerodynamics to create a vision that is both familiar and excitingly new.

“While our concept projects don’t always reach the marketplace, the resulting lessons and innovations often influence present and future designs as they make their way into our main product lines.”

The concept will be showcased at Porsche’s SXSW exhibit in Austin, Texas, where Airstream and Porsche Lifestyle group executives will unveil a 1/3 scale model of the camper and a Porsche Macan tow vehicle.
